IEEE SSCS Israel Chapter Hosts Online Lecture

On 5 August 2020, IEEE Solid-State
Circuits Society (SSCS) Distinguished
Lecturer (DL) Prof. Andrea Bevilacqua,
University of Padova, Italy, presented
his seminar " Fundamentals of Integrated Transformers: From Principles
to Applications " online for the SSCS Israel Chapter. In his lecture, Bevilacqua
covered the basic operation principles
of transformers as well as several applications of these devices in ICs. He
explained that, in integrated implementations, the intrinsic parasitic
elements of magnetic transformers,
namely, the magnetizing and leakage inductances, are never negligible,
and he discussed techniques to embed the components in the design of
amplifiers and oscillators. In particular, he discussed, in detail, the use of
transformer-based, fourth-order
networks (also known as doubly tuned
networks) as both matching networks
and oscillator resonators.
The seminar was hosted and coorganized by the Advanced Circuits
Research Center (ACRC), Technion-Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa.
More than 130 participants from the
semiconductor industry and academia
attended the lecture. Bevilacqua's
expertise made this conversation interesting and informative for the participants. The presentation was followed
by a lively and detailed Q&A session.
