Society events are where he makes new contacts in the technical community and catches up with existing ones. " The high technical standards within the SSCS community have been very inspirational for me, " Murmann said. " The quality of the papers and presentations at all venues stand out and have defined international standards. " Murmann helped establish and is currently the chair of Solid-State Circuits Directions (SSCD), the Society's first technical committee. Its charter is to promote forward-looking topics, improve the SSCS's connection to developments at higher abstraction levels, and stimulate interactions with other communities. One of the SSCD's main activities is memberdriven technical workshops, and several have already been held. Under the umbrella of the SSCD is the Platform for IC Design Outreach (PICO) program, which Murmann also helped establish. The Society is working with the rapidly growing open source community to help accelerate the construction of the required ecosystem. The goal of the PICO program is to help build Murmann participates in the 2013 annual Oregon State University-Stanford soccer match with Unku Moon (left).
