from industry and academia
joined the event.
Kazuko Nishimura discussed the
development of a CMOS image sensor
with an organic photoconductive
film (OPF) laminated on pixel circuits
and the difference compared to conventional
silicon image sensors. She
elaborated the advantages of the OPF
image sensor and the technology,
which realizes a more-than-120-dB
simultaneous-capture wide dynamic
range and a global shutter technology
achieving high saturation signals
per unit square that are 10 dB higher
than that of silicon image sensors
with the global shutter function,
without sacrificing pixel area. She
also discussed the red, green, blue-
near infrared (NIR) sensor technology
capable of controlling NIR sensitivity
by simply controlling the voltage applied
to the OPF. Kazuko Nishimura
also shared the current development
of 8K4K high-resolution sensor technologies
with a 60-fps high frame
rate. Moderator Dr. Syalwani Kamarudin
took questions from participants,
and speaker Kazuko responded by
sharing her insightful opinions.

Leibniz University Hannover, Germany
On 15 September 2021, the IEEE Malaysia
EDS/MTT-S/SSCS Penang Joint Chapter
organized an online distinguished
lecture " Tiny and Efficient-Power Management
as a Key Function in Microelectronic
Systems, " by DL Prof. Bernhard
Wicht from Leibniz University Hannover.
The online event was coorganized with
TAM, the IET Malaysia Network, the
IEM, and Tech Dome Penang. More
than 40 participants from industry and
academia joined the event. Prof. Wicht
described that he had visited Penang
22 years ago and reminisced about his
wonderful experience and how he hopes
to return once it is safe and he is able.
Prof. Wicht started the lecture with
an overview of microelectronic systems,
followed by an introduction of
power management in ICs. Prof. Wicht
elaborated on the requirements of power
management in ICs and point of load.
He discussed examples for small devices
with moderate conversion ratios
and an input voltage of 4 V (handheld
devices, personal digital assistants, and
consumer products) for applications
with larger conversion ratios and input
voltages of 10-60 V (automotive/industrial
products and server applications).
