In Step With Woogeun Rhee
Benefiting Humanity With Global Reach

Prof. Woogeun Rhee has lived his
life around the globe-studying,
teaching, and traveling around the
four corners of the world. Woogeun
received his B.S. degree in electronics
engineering from Seoul National
University in 1991, his M.S. degree
in electrical engineering from the
University of California Los Angeles
in 1993, and his Ph.D. degree in
electrical and computer engineering
from the University of Illinois
Urbana-Champaign in 2001. From
1997 to 2001, he was with Conexant
Systems, Newport Beach, California.
From 2001 to 2006, he was with IBM
Thomas J. Watson Research Center,
Yorktown Heights, New York.
He is currently a full professor
at the School of Integrated Circuits
at Tsinghua University, Beijing,
China. His current research interests
include short-range low-power
radios for next generation wireless
systems and clock/frequency generation
circuits for wireline and wireless
communications. Woogeun has
authored or coauthored more than
150 IEEE papers in journals and conference
proceedings and currently
holds 24 U.S. patents. He edited two
books published by the Institution
of Engineering and Technology and
CRC Press.
Woogeun's biggest accomplishment
in his career was the development
of a new phase-locked loop (PLL)
product based on his Ph.D. thesis.
At the time, he was not only a fulltime
engineer at Conexant Systems
