Lee. " During his presentation, Prof.
Lee talked about the introduction of
bipolar power transistor in 1960s,
giant bipolar junction transistor in
late 1970s, power MOSFETs in late
1970s, and IGBT in mid 1980s. Additionally,
he also discussed average
model presented by Wester &
Middlebrook in 1972 at the PESC
conference, development of permanent
magnet brushless dc motor
and drive in 1978, and soft switching
technologies in early 1980s. In
conclusion, he stated that there has
been lot of evolution in last fifty
years but incremental. " Wide bandgap
devices will change the way we
design and manufacture in the future, "
he asserted.

Noriko Kawakami of TMEIC, a company
established in 2003 through the
integration of the
industrial systems
division, the power
electronics systems
division, and the
rotating machinery
division of Toshiba
and Mitsubishi Electric.
