the generation/transmission/conversion

loads. New substations were erected to
meet the demand of new commercial
and residential loads.
Change also impacted the small ac
stations that had been constructed by
both the Municipal and the Citizen's
companies. Ainslie Street is the best
recorded of the small stations; local
generation ceased in 1902, but the station continued to supply dc and also ac
loads. In both instances, power from
Gold Street was converted mechanically from the 6,600-V, 25-Hz transmission lines to either dc or 60-Hz ac
for distribution. The arc light systems
appear to have been supplied also by
mechanical conversion, probably until
retirement in the 1920s. The dc load
was eliminated in 1937, but the ac side
had by then been modified to a distribution transformer plant that apparjanuary/february 2016
