t is indeed a great honor for me
to announce the celebration of
the life of our founding editor-inchief, Dr. Mohamed E. El-Hawary.
This issue of IEEE Systems, Man,
and Cybernetics Magazine is dedicated to him for all of his accomplishments and contributions to the IEEE
and the IEEE Systems, Man, and
Cybernetics Society (SMCS).
As the interim editor-in-chief, I
have enormous shoes to fill. I am
fully committed and will give it my
best shot. At our IEEE SMC Annual
Conference in Bari, Italy, 6-9 October
2019, Dr. El-Hawary's presence was
felt by many conference delegates
who talked about him and how much
he did for the Society. The conference,
held in an exceptionally beautiful location, was a huge hit. Sessions were
very well organized with technical
contributions of papers from 38 countries, and the quality of presentations
was excellent.
We also had a great lineup of keynote speeches. It was very interesting to hear that we are already going
beyond Industry 4.0 and discussing
Industry 5.0, where intelligence, connectivity, and social aspects will play
much greater roles as we move rapidly
from industrial to knowledge automation. The next industrial revolution
may be coming to our doorsteps sooner than we think!
It is very clear to me that many
great researchers from various parts
of the world have much to offer to our
magazine regarding their technical
and novel contributions to the body of
knowledge through articles they submit. I am looking forward to receiving
such articles and will ensure that they
will be attended to in a timely manner.
