expressed their reactions and their
memories shortly after receiving the
news, and some of their remarks and
testimonials are shared here.
Even up to his untimely passing,
Mo was diligently applying himself.
He was working on the final stages
of producing the next issue of IEEE
Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Magazine while likely multitasking on
other fronts on behalf of the IEEE
and Dalhousie University, where he
had a long and distinguished career
since 1981 and was considered one
of its great professors.
Mo was also quite busy inviting
a next wave of new editorial board
members for IEEE Systems, Man, and
Cybernetics Magazine. A number of

SMCS members, including Jun Wang,
Peng Shi, Vladimir Marik, and Anup
Basu, recalled corresponding with
Mo in response to his interpersonal
manner of recruiting the best volunteers to support the operations of
IEEE Systems, Man, and Cybernetics
Magazine and help uphold its quality standards. Vladimir recalled that

Mo was "so proactive" in this regard,
while Vladik Kreinovich added that
"Mo was always full of enthusiasm,
always trying to bring more folks to
our fields," and Anup Basu remarked
that "Mo was a wonderful friend who
was always trying to make everything better." They all looked forward
to working with Mo, as did others
who were most certainly approached
as well by him toward the same ends.
Regarding his service, Philip Chen
noted, "Mo is such a dedicated fellow
in our Society." As Ferat Sahin put it,
"He was a very passionate volunteer
of the SMC Society and a relentless
champion of IEEE Systems, Man,
and Cybernetics Magazine." Tadahiko Murata summed up the thoughts
of many, adding, "We highly appreciate Mo's devoted service to our
SMC Society."
Regarding Mo's mentorship and
broad magnanimous support to others, Mengchu Zhou noted, "Mo helped
so many of us and he will live in our
heart for good." Jason Gu remarked,
"Mo has been my best friend, colleague, and mentor. We have been
working together both academically and professionally." Lance C.C.
Fung added, "Mo has been a pillar of
strength for the SMC Society and a
great mentor for many."
Keith Hipel sha red a commo n sentiment for many: "He will
certainly be missed by his many
friends and colleagues from around
the globe." Dimitar Filev offered

our memory of Mo, that many will
surely agree with, noting, "He will
be remembered as a great man and
scholar...as a great researcher and a
gentleman."
