of complex
systems, robotics,
and haptics. He has published more
than 1,000 scientific articles in various
international journals and conferences.
Prof. Nahavandi was the recipient
of the Researcher of the Year for Australian
Space Awards 2021; Australian
Defense Industry Awards-Winner
of Innovator of the Year; the Essington
Lewis Awards; and the Australian
Engineering Excellence Awards-Professional
Engineer of the Year.
Prof. Nahavandi has carried out
industry-based research with several
major international companies, such
as Airbus, Boeing, Bosch, Ford Motor
Company, General Motors, General Dynamics,
KBR, Lockheed Martin, Nissan,
Thales, and Vestas, just to name a
few. Prof. Nahavandi holds six patents,
two of which have resulted in two very
successful startups (Universal Motion
Simulator Pty. Ltd. and FLAIM Systems
Pty. Ltd.). Prof. Nahavandi is the senior
associate editor of IEEE Systems Journal,
an associate editor of IEEE Transactions
on Cybernetics, and an IEEE
Press Editorial Board member.
Prof. Nahavandi is a Fellow of
IEEE, Engineers Australia, and the
IET. Prof. Nahavandi is also a Fellow
of the Australian Academy of Technology
and Engineering. In addition,
Prof. Nahavandi was the general chair
for SMCS in 2021.

Prof. Peng Shi
received his bachelor's
degree in
appl ied mathematics
from Harbin
Institute of
T e c h n o l o g y ,
China, his master's
degree in systems engineering
from Harbin Engineering University,

China, his Ph.D. degree in electrical
engineering from the University of
Newcastle, Australia, and his Ph.D.
degree in mathematics from the University
of South Australia. He was
awarded his Doctor of Science
degree from the University of Glamorgan,
Wales, and his Doctor of Engineering
degree from the University of
Adelaide, Australia.
He is now a professor at the University
of Adelaide, a leader of the Systems
and Control Group, and the director
of the Laboratory of Advanced
Unmanned Systems.
His research interests
include systems
and control theory
and applications
to autonomous and
robotic systems, intelligence
systems,
network systems,
and cyberphysical
systems. He has
published widely
in those areas. His
work has received
more than 77,000 citations
from Google
Scholar with an Hindex
of 149. He has
received many recognitions, prizes,
and awards, including the Highly Cited
Researcher in both fields of engineering
and computer science (2014-2021,
Thomson Reuters/Clarivate Analytics);
the first-ranked Highest Cited Researcher
in Electrical and Electronic
Engineering (2018, The World University
Rankings); the second-ranked Top
Electronics and Electrical Engineering
Scientists (2022, Research.com); a
listing in the Lifetime Achiever LeaderBoard
(2019-2021, The Australian); the
Runner-up, Scopus Researcher of the
Year (Australia and New Zealand, 2017,
Elsevier); the Outstanding Achievement
Award of Excellence in Research
(2020, University of Adelaide); and
many Best Paper awards from international
journals and conferences, including
the Andrew Sage Best Transactions
Paper award from the SMCS in 2016.
His work has been continuously
