I
n this issue, I introduce the readers
four articles. The other three
articles for the special section
" Next-Generat ion Networks for
Industry 4.0 " will be outlined in the
special session editorial by guest
editors Haisheng Yu, Jiehan Zhou,
Zhixiong Chen, Yongzhi Wang, and
Madhusanka Liyanage. They are
highly appreciated for their effective
work in collecting high-quality
submissions.
The first article is dedicated to
researchers from China. They are
Yuxin Liu and Jinsong Gui from
Central South University and N.
Xiong from Central China Normal
University. Their article is " Cognitive
Network Architecture Systems
to Provide Intelligent Services. "
The authors investigate the mechanisms
for cognitive resource sharing
among users, i.e., primary, secondary,
and resource users, and resource
owners. They propose an intelligent
self-organization approach to building
cognitive networks through the
data-driven cognitive network archiDigital

spectrum and device-usage contexts,
they design a cognitive spectrum
and device engine to mine primary
users' spectrum-usage rules. The
engine can also deliver customized
network services based on secondary
users' data analytics. Moreover,
they illustrate a game-based incentive
mechanism for encouraging primary
users to offer spectrum-usage
information, and for device owners
to provide resources for establishing
cognitive network services and supporting
secondary users to compete
for desirable services.
The second one, " Blockchain TechHaibin
Zhu
tecture. In the article, the authors
claim an increasing interest in dataintensive
and content-rich applications
on mobile smart devices. They
state that existing cellular architectures
cannot support ultrareliable
and low-latency communications.
They believe that although future
wireless networks are expected to
effectively exploit the terahertz frequency
band, obtaining stable, ultrareliable,
and low-latency communications

is a survey article contributed by
two Canadian researchers from the
University of Windsor: Fazel Mohammadi
and Mehrdad Saif. In this
article, they aim to present a deep
discussion on energy transition and
digitalization in power systems and
study the role of blockchain technology
in modern power systems.
Furthermore, they deliberate the
opportunities, challenges, and limitations
of blockchain technology in
modern power systems. They claim
that blockchain is a distributed and
decentralized peer-to-peer network
used for sharing data in a trusted and
secure way. They believe that blockchain
utilizes different mechanisms,
such as hash functions, consensus algorithms,
and so on, for data verification
and validation. They find that in
modern power systems, blockchain
technology can be used for balancing
supply and demand, enhancing
demand-side management programs,
and converting consumers to
prosumers to trade electricity and reduce
operational costs.
