On the basis of information gathered and according
to a set of inference rules, the two CSOs are able to
support office users during their working activities
by suggesting to turn the lights on/off, to switch the
projector off while not used, to take a break after a
long sitting work session, and show important information on the screen closest to users, among others.
A demo of the developed IoT system can be found at
the ACOSO website. Currently, we are integrating
ACOSO with cloud computing platforms (e.g., [18]) to
allow for smar t objects v ir tualization and on-thecloud workf low-ba sed a na ly tics of ecosystems of
smart objects [19].

Finally, as a strategic challenge in the development of
future smart-object-oriented IoT systems, interoperability will play a crucial role. In fact, interoperability is key
for the interaction, interconnection, and integration of
heterogeneous IoT systems at different platform layers
(device, networking, middleware, application services,
data, and semantics) and at the global platform level. To
deal with such issues, an agent-oriented, layer-based
approach could notably be exploited [20]. In this direction, we are partners of the European-Union-funded
H2020 INTER-IoT project (http://www.inter-iot.eu), in the
key ICT-30 call framework on platforms for interconnected smart objects, aiming to provide effective cross-layer
