Systems, Man & Cybernetics - October 2015 - 33

EEE Systems, Man, & Cyber-
netics Magazine publishes special sections (SSs) on emerging
topics that are guest edited by distinguished researchers in areas
of interest to IEEE Systems, Man,
and Cybernetics Society (SMCS)
members. These g u idelines a re
designed to encourage and help
potential guest editors (GEs) to
plan and complete editing of an
SS of this magazine. In addition to
planning and editing, GEs are also
asked to review the scope of the
magazine to ensure the suitability
of the proposed topic. The magazine's editor-in-chief (EiC), associate editors (AEs), and the SMCS
v ice president for Publications,
Systems, Cybernetics, and HumanMachine Systems (HMS) are very
helpful with evaluating topic suitability for potential GEs. Once the
GEs have decided to propose an SS,
they are invited to submit to the EiC
the following:
◆ The theme and a brief description (scope) of the SS, its relevance/impor tance and need
in the present context, a list of
specific topics to focus the SS,
and a provisional list of potential
authors to show that there are
sufficient researchers to support
such an SS. While SSs based on
papers from a conference may
be considered, the SS would be
organized based on an open call
for papers (CFP).
◆ A brief description of the stateof-the-art in the proposed area
and justification for why the
proposed SS could be of interest to magazine readers (including knowledge gaps there are in
the published literature). Keep
in mind that the GE is expected
to write an editorial that leads
into the rest of the articles in
the SS. This description should
be written as a prelude to that
editorial.
