ing as the Nominations Committee
chair, for handling nominations, and
for completing the elections in time
for the newly elected members to
take their posts starting 1 January
2016. I also thank Senior Past-President Michael Berthold for ensuring
that the Awards and Fellows committees completed their work in a timely
manner. In 2015, the Lotfi A. Zadeh
Pioneer Award was established as
a new Society award. With a generous contribution from a donor, the
award has been endowed with Society matching funds.
I have been closely following the
grassroots group on financial transparency and have attended their
meetings held during the Technical
Activities Board (TAB) meetings
series. Thanks to SMCS Past President Michael H. Smith for helping us
to better understand Society financial matters and to Robert Woon
for serving as the Society treasurer.
As a result of the need to better
understand the sources of revenue
and cost, we have established the
new position of VP of Finance. Beginning in early 2016, the president will
appoint the VP of Finance for a term
to expire at the end of 2016. Starting
in October 2016, the BoG will elect
the VP of Finance for two-year terms.
Of great service during my twoyear term was Rodney Roberts, who
served as the Society secretary over
the past four years. I thank Rodney for continuing to serve even
after being elected VP of Technical Activities in 2015. Thanks to
Randy C. Hoover, who also served
as secretary in 2015. They were both
instrumental in introducing tools
such as SurveyMonkey for electronic voting and Dropbox for keeping
records of presentation and reports
for our ExCom and BoG meetings.
With the History Committee led by
Michael H. Smith and the yearly
records posted on our Society website annually, we are preserving the
corporate memory of the Society.
I would like to thank SMCS Past
Presidents Michael H. Smith and
Larry Hall for serving as Society
