President's Message

s 2018 approaches, I am be--
coming increasingly excited
about the opportunity to
continue serving the IEEE Systems,
Man, and Cybernetics (SMC) Society,
this time as its president during 2018-
2019. I am currently interacting with
and supporting our president, Dimi-
tar Filev, and the Executive Commit-
tee and Board of Governors (BoG)
to ensure a smooth transition and
maintain momentum in the execution
of the SMC Society operational plan
that is already in effect.
I am encouraged and energized by
the recent and very positive compre-
hensive assessment of our Society's
activities during 2012-2017 by the
IEEE Technical Activity Board's
Society and Council Review Commit-
tee. Our president remarked on his
pleasure and pride regarding that as-
sessment in the July 2017 "President's
Message" column of IEEE Systems,
Man, and Cybernetics Magazine. I
share his sentiments and congratulate
him, the past SMC Society presidents,
SMC Society leadership, and the sup-
porting volunteer base whose efforts
over recent years elicited such posi-
tive feedback.
