Ulises Cortés has been a Researcher with the
Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, since 1982 and has been tenured since
1988. He was habilitated as a Full Professor from
2006 (tenure in 2007). He is currently working on several areas of artificial intelligence (AI) in the computer
sciences such as knowledge acquisition for and concept formation in knowledge-based systems, as well
as on machine learning and autonomous intelligent
agents. He is very active in promoting a human-centric and trustworthy AI.
Mr. Cortés has been a member of the Ethical
Committee at UPC since 2020 and the Sistema
Nacional de Investigadores (Level III) since 2007
(CONACyT). He was awarded the Mexican of the
Year by the Secretaría de Relaciones Exteriores,
Mexico, in 2018.
