FOR THE FIRST TIME in its 20-year history, Alternative has
launched a 50/50 collection. The company constantly experiments
with new cuts, styles, colors and fabrics to evolve its offerings to
customers, says Nurain Alicharan, the company's social media and
PR coordinator.
"That's how we landed on our vintage-inspired 50/50 collection,"
she says. "We weren't consciously trying to enter a new market; we
were trying to make something our customers would love. It's really
for anyone who is tired of the same old blends and commoditized
products."
The company wants its 50/50 crew-neck tee, "The Keeper," to instantly become a go-to everyday favorite, Alicharan adds. "We found
that blending the softness of cotton with the durability of polyester
allowed The Keeper to stay breathable and cool during activity, while
also holding its shape and color over time," she says. "We were so
happy with the new 50/50 fabrication that we developed a full line
of 50/50 styles, 11 in all."
"It feels like we are launching our next big thing," says Evan Toporek,
CEO, Alternative. "It's tough to project sales, but initial reaction has
been so overwhelming that we already have our factories booked solid
with orders for the next six months and we are opening additional
capacity to meet demand."
The company tests many printing methods each time it launches
a new fabrication. This particular fabric holds up well regardless of
being printed with plastisol or discharge ink, according to Alicharan.

THE SPECIALTY GRAPHIC IMAGING ASSOCIATION (SGIA), Fairfax, Va.,
announced that Ford Bowers of Miller Zell Inc. will become its new
president and CEO, effective Feb. 1. ¶ Bowers succeeds Michael
Robertson, who led the association for nearly 33 years. ¶ During the
past nine years, Bowers has served as the vice president of operations
for Miller Zell Inc. and general manager of the Miller Zell Graphic
Center. He led the company through the transition from analog to
mostly digital print production. He also attained G7 qualification
in several printing methodologies, as well as Sustainable Green
Printing Partnership (SGP) certification. ¶ Robertson's 33 years
of service include 15 years as president and CEO, during which he
oversaw exponential advancement in the industry and the association.
