Stretching
Beyond Borders
T-Shirt & Sons' history involves
screen printing, but modern technology
has enabled global expansion.

T-Shirt & Sons' screen-printing
department caters to high-volume
orders for events and merchandise.

For 30 years, United Kingdom-based T-Shirt & Sons Ltd. has
been a major player in the global screen-printing industry. Established in the 1980s, the company satisfied local needs for
printed garments.
As years passed,T-Shirt & Sons began exploring demand for
personalized merchandise in the entertainment market, ultimately
becoming one of the U.K.'s largest apparel-decorating firms
to date. Outside of its headquarters, growth has necessitated a
separate production facility inVenlo, Netherlands, on the shared
border with Germany, its second-largest European market.The
company ships globally from both locations, routing orders accordingly depending on clients and capacity.
Entertainment Niche
With decades of industry knowledge, the company has a set
reputation for being the U.K.'s go-to printer for music festivals, band tours and numerous businesses in the multifaceted
marketing world.
"About 10 years ago, Burger King approached us to run a
campaign involving a personalized T-shirt," says Andrew Lunt,
founding partner,T-Shirt & Sons."Even though this seems quite
normal these days, it was something very new back then. Producing personalized garments was a costly process that involved
lots of screens and, quite frankly, wasn't economically viable.We
did our research and bought an inkjet printer that was one of the
early, stripped-down Epson machines rebadged, then rebuilt on
a new chassis and given a rudimentary, recirculating white-ink
system. We knew at this very early stage, though, that without
the correct equipment and workflow, it would be very hard to
master this trade; so, the journey began."
The company's personalization path soon expanded beyond
the European market. Lunt says this was doable because there's
essentially no difference between the European and United States
markets; even on a global scale, all businesses stock relatively the
same brands - give or take a few.
"We operate 24/7 in order to keep on top of demand; at peak
times, this can be stretched, as the customer always expects their
