it," Lunt says. "The market is definitely
bigger in the USA, but Europe is the same
size population-wise, so the potential is
the same. Globally, we are under pressure
to ship as quickly as possible.
Lunt says the company has begun to
pursue ambitious production goals to accommodate customers, but it realizes the
related challenges."The holy grail is to do
same-day production," he says."We have
trialed it and it definitely gives an uplift
on demand, but it also comes at a cost.The
biggest challenge to all of us is the peaks
in demand; no day is the same."
New Business Model
In early 2014,T-Shirt & Sons began taking
a new approach with its popular niche,
transitioning to direct-to-garment (DTG)
printing and opening new markets to be
explored along the way. It was a lucky
break, according to Lunt.
"We were approached by the pioneers
of print, RedBubble," he recalls. "They
were producing large quantities of one-off
T-shirts in the U.S. and gaining traction
in the U.K. and across Europe. Moving
production to the U.K. meant rapid
growth. We now print and fulfill many
of the largest global online platforms, all of
them looking for a localized production
of their product."
With a lot of elbow grease and determination, the company invested time, money and vast resources into delivering the
best possible product to further expand its

clientele outreach. This philosophy was
built on an already-stellar reputation.
"As the best in class, we are very proud
of this and our team who have made this
possible," explains Lunt explains. "We
know we are not the cheapest fulfiller in
the market, but year after year, we are approached by clients who have been failed by
our competition, as quality and scalability
have held them back. Our production is
measured on its internal performance.We
strive for perfection and believe our clients
recognize this."
The company's three-pronged business
approach (print on demand, mass production and screen printing) has held true,
enabling it to find a "sweet spot" within the
rapidly changing industry. Most printers
today are trying to straddle the line between old decorating methods and those
developed via modern technology.
"If you look at the marketplace as a
whole, most DTG printers began with
DTG, while most large-volume screen
printers have been slow or refuse to adopt
new tech," Lunt says."We see the value in
both. Our DTG customers [continue] to
be interested in one-off and fulfillment,
and our screen-print customers are after
large volume delivered in bulk. Since most
businesses are looking at ways to reduce
their stock, DTG and print on demand
is the answer. But if you're selling tour
merch, then screen print will always be
the best option. I don't believe DTG will
ever replace [screen printing]; it has just
created a new market to the detriment
of the traditional way [of decorating]."

A Bright Future
One look at T-Shirt & Sons' production
capabilities underscores its commitment
to DTG printing and its belief in various platforms provided by manufacturer
Kornit Digital, Rosh-Ha`Ayin, Israel.The
company houses 21 Kornit DTG printers,
two Vulcan Plus machines, an Atlas and
Avalanche Poly Pro, Kornit's latest
solution for DTG printing directly to
polyester and polyester-blended garments.
Expansion plans for T-Shirt & Sons are
on the horizon despite the effects of the
COVID-19 global pandemic.
"We are still growing and have ambition for more facilities in the future,"
Lunt says."The last few months have been
some of the busiest on record, [resulting
in] an unprecedented demand due to the
shift in online shopping.We are expecting
exponential growth in the coming years
as consumers shift from [shopping in]
bricks-and-mortar [stores] to online."
New technology is a driving force for
T-Shirt & Sons' business. The company
constantly is searching for new products
or opportunities to further develop its
existing platforms, and Lunt doesn't see
that approach ending anytime soon.
"We love new ideas," Lunt says."Obviously, there is huge scope for expansion.
We plan to scale up our business and have
truly global outreach.There are still opportunities to develop new marketplaces,
and with new technology, we can continue
to grow.The future is very exciting, and
every day brings something new to the
table." 
