tHe itinerary
Day 1: Fukuoka - Nagasaki
Depart Hakata Station via local train to Nagasaki. Visit the
Peace Park & Museum, Nagasaki
Art Museum and the island of
Dejima.
O
ne of JR Kyushu's hottest
railway confections is the
Aru Ressha, or Sweet Train.
While its luxurious and
wildly popular "big sister" Seven
Stars gets most of the publicity,
the diminutive Sweet Train
is no slouch. In fact, both trains
are the brainchild of famed
designer Eiji Mitooka.
The Sweet Train boasts great
food, phenomenal service and
gorgeous scenery. Self-propelled,
it comprises just two cars.
Car 1 is open seating. Car
2 consists of private "booths,"
accessible through sliding
wooden doors.
The train's dining program
was desgined by Yoshihiro
Narisawa, famous for his Tokyo
restaurant. The seasonal menu
features Kyushu delicacies.
The two-hour journey
includes a light lunch followed by
three courses of desserts.
A typical trip includes a
bento box with meat, fish and
vegetables.
Then come fruits, followed by
a delicacy called mignardises (tea
cakes).
The service on the Sweet Train,
Day 2: Nagasaki - Sweet Train
- Sasebo
Today visit Glover Garden and
Oura Church in Nagasaki. Then
transfer to Nagasaki Station to
enjoy the scenic Sweet Train
journey from Nagasaki to
Sasebo. Then transfer to a local
train for the 20-minute ride to
Huis Ten Bosch, one of Japan's
largest theme parks which
celebrates Dutch-Japanese relations, dating back to 1609.

knowledgeable and indefatigable.
tHe tour
We recommend your Sweet Train
tour include a visit to Nagasaki,
which was the victim of an
atomic bomb attack at the end of
WW II.
We also recommend a visit to
Nagasaki's Peace Park & Museum
as well as its Art Museum and the
island of Dejima-occupied by
Dutch traders since the 1600s.
Dutch influence also is on
display at Huis Ten Bosch Resort
and Gardens, a resort and theme
park where you can overnight.
An ecological, historical and
environmental wonder, it must
be seen to be believed.
Day 3: Sasebo - Fukuoka
Explore Huis Ten Bosch at your
leisure - enjoy the varied museums, gardens, and attractions.
In early afternoon, enjoy the
2-hour ride back to Fukuoka
via local trains. Final evening at
leisure in Fukuoka.
Day 4: Departure
