KBB - March 2014 - (Page 6)

EDITOR'S NOTE 2014 Was a Very Good Year for KBIS I have only been to two rounds of KBIS so far, but I will say this second show in Las Vegas was hugely different than the first. In a word, it was definitely more "alive." The way in which I traversed KBIS in 2013 would not have worked this year, but I was new then, and now I've learned. Instead of jumping from booth to booth with no set plan, this year I scheduled my appointments in 15-minute increments, and I did my best to follow those to a "t." If I had not walked the show that way, I would have really missed out on learning about all of the trends and innovation that were apparent in every corner. I still wasn't able to see everything - the sheer amount of booth space and attendees made that impossible in three days - but I made a great effort. My colleagues and I were even able to fit a few of the educational sessions into our packed schedules, as well as some of the awards announcements and the 30 Under 30 and State of the Industry presentations. You can read about all of this coverage, including the latest and greatest in kitchen and bath products and innovations, in our KBIS section on pages 31-46. A lot of the trends I witnessed at KBIS 2014 are reflected in various columns in this issue, including the fact that clients want their kitchens and bathrooms to be functional - yet still attractive. Accessible doesn't have to mean ugly, which is the message in the Universal Design column. People also want a better quality of life, which can be accomplished through purposeful design, and this is discussed in Industry Viewpoint. Cabinetry today is all about more storage options and less ornamentation, which is the topic of Trends in this issue, and keeping up with the times through technology and design is always important, as reflected in both Dealer Dish and Solutions. In this issue, we also introduce our People and Places section, which gives you an up-close look at the movers and shakers in our industry. We at K+BB hope you had an amazing time at KBIS and Design & Construction Week - I know we did - and we'd love to hear about what you learned during your experience. n Chelsie Butler, Executive Editor chelsie.butler@emeraldexpo.com DESIGN + INNOV TION + LIFESTYLE / March 2014 A EDITORIAL executive editor | Chelsie Butler 1145 Sanctuary Parkway Suite 355, Alpharetta GA 30009 (770) 291-5425 | chelsie.butler@emeraldexpo.com art director | Wendi Van Eldik (770) 291-5520 | wendi.vaneldik@emeraldexpo.com Graphic desiGner | Denise Fields (770) 291-5487 | denise.fields@emeraldexpo.com onLine editor | ErinnWaldo (770) 291-5617 | erinn.waldo@emeraldexpo.com industrY Watch enewsletter Nichole Schulze; naschulze@yahoo.com editoriaL advisorY board Kate Bailey; Meredith Barclay; Jeff Burton; Paul Cottle; Kristina Crestin; Sabrina DaLomba; Sandra Espinet; Bill Feinberg; Pamela Goldstein, cmkbd, caps, allied asid; Christopher Grubb; David Hagney; Paula Kennedy, cmkbd, caps; Cathy Osborne; William Roquemore; Toni Sabatino; Phil Seaton; Ebony Stephenson; David Stimmel; Arturo Vazquez SUPPORT production director | Nan McDowell (770) 291-5480 | nan.mcdowell@emeraldexpo.com production ManaGer | Terri Hill (770) 291-5481 | terri.hill@emeraldexpo.com reprints and eprints Anastasia Minichino, The YGS Group (800) 501-9571 Ext. 100 anastasia.minichino@theygsgroup.com circuLation custoMer service (800) 697-8859; Fax: (847) 291-8416 nkb@omeda.com List rentaL Contact your Territory Manager or: Gregry Gilroy, (845) 201-5329 gregry.gilroy@reachmarketing.com pubLisher Natasha Selhi 6800 Jericho Turnpike Suite #100E, Syosset, NY 11791 (516) 682-6030 natasha.selhi@emeraldexpo.com TERRITORY MANAGERS MidWest John Wilson (215) 497-0221 john.wilson@emeraldexpo.com east coast Paul Bienkowski (860) 644-3861; FAX: (860) 644-0700 pbienkowski@cox.net Phil Viscidi (781) 431-1320; FAX: (781) 431-1968 phil@viscidi.com Liliana Connolly (781) 431-1320; M: (781) 492-1509 lil@viscidi.com West coast and southWest Larry Shore (562) 598-5560 larry.shore@emeraldexpo.com cLassiFieds and speciaL sections Diane Kennedy 1145 Sanctuary Parkway Suite #355, Alpharetta, GA 30009 (770) 291-5519 diane.kennedy@emeraldexpo.com vice president/content Doug Hope (770) 291-5453 doug.hope@emeraldexpo.com vp kitchen and bath Group Brian Pagel 1145 Sanctuary Parkway, Suite #355, Alpharetta, GA 30009 (770) 291-5438 brian.pagel@emeraldexpo.com senior vice president Joe Randall joe.randall@emeraldexpo.com david Loechner CEO, Emerald Expositions eileen deady Vice President, Human Resources denise bashem Vice President, Finance Lori Jenks Vice President, Operations darrell denny Senior Vice Presdent Business Development teresa reilly Vice President, Digital Joanne Wheatley Vice President, Manufacturing & Marketing Services the official sponsor of Circle No. 7 Copyright © 2014 by Emerald Expositions.
