A Look Back
at KBIS 2015
Well another KBIS has come and gone,
and I can hardly believe it's already over. The
amount of planning that goes into making
this event a success is mind blowing! And
then once you are at KBIS, there is so much
to do and see - you deﬁnitely have to plan
your time wisely.
This year's trends included even more
specialized storage (think slots for Tupperware lids!), touchless technology that eliminates the spread of germs in the kitchen and bathroom, designing
for smaller spaces, ﬂoating vanities, ozone faucets, more customization
- the list just goes on. Our 16-page KBIS section features an expanded
look at new products, as well as a view into the Voices from the Industry
and 30 under 30 programs, the State of the Industry Address, Opening
Ceremonies and a myriad of award programs and winners. If you were
unable to attend KBIS this year or if you missed a few things - all of your
coverage is in one place in this issue.
I had the opportunity to interview the NKBA's newest president -
Maria Stapperfenne, CKD, CBD - at our booth during the show, and we
talked about how KBIS was received this year.
"The excitement on the ﬂoor was incredible," she said. "The vendors
were excited, and they were saying that all of their leads were the
actual decision makers. Business is good - KBIS was a huge win."
Also during KBIS, K+BB took advantage of some time on the KBIS
NeXT stage with our session: "The Designer and the Builder: A Relationship." Our Industry Viewpoint column spells out the beneﬁts of the two
working together - much like the collaboration of KBIS and IBS - and
how to foster this relationship. Did you know involving the designer can
save money and alleviate the contractor's workload?
Our Trends column focuses on green design, and in our next issue,
one of our Editorial Advisory Board members will talk about the green
trends she found at KBIS. In Universal Design, a couple decided to renovate their bathroom with aging in place in mind - making some smart
decisions and waiting on others. Our features highlight a kitchen renovation on a budget and a bathroom update in a historical property.
This and much more can be found in this issue, so please take your
time reading through it. And if you did attend KBIS this year, what was
your favorite part? We'd love to know about the trends that "wowed"
you, the content that was most helpful and the new relationships you
