UNIVERSAL DESIGN Pergo Max laminate floors were an affordable flooring solution since we had so much flooring with which to work. These were also chosen so that a wheelchair could easily roll over them and so the homeowners could easily clean up after their dog. One of the bedrooms was converted to a fully accessible master bathroom. Highlights and additions include: * A barrier-free, tiled shower with safety grab bars and a horizontal, recessed niche * 36-in.-wide doorways to the addition and bedroom * A fold-down bench seat with reinforced steel legs * A hand-held personal shower plus a wall-mounted showerhead * A comfort-height toilet with an extended-height seat and safety grab bars * A wall-mounted vanity sink with additional countertop space * A mirrored medicine cabinet for additional storage * A full linen closet * A flat-screen TV mounted on the wall in front of the toilet At the end of the remodel, the homeowners were so pleased with the outcome. Everything they planned for and dreamed of had come to fruition. The husband was able to invite his friends over to hang out in their new addition and watch TV. He could go to the restroom and shower on his own. With a strong desire for cooking, he could go in his own kitchen and comfortably cook his family a meal without any assistance from others. He could wash and fold his own clothes in the custom laundry room built around his needs. The family could now enjoy time together on their new wheelchair-accessible deck and outdoor space. The wife could enjoy having her own bathroom with her favorite colors and feel comfortable knowing that her husband was taken care of.
