KBIS SPECIAL SECTION Section by Chelsie Butler and Erinn Waldo How Attending and Participating in KBIS 2016 Adds Value Q: How do you feel attending KBIS adds value for a kitchen and/or bath professional? Rudisser: We're living through a time in which we have more and more email and electronic contacts, while face-to-face contact is virtually unheard of. We know the relationships we have built with our customers need to be maintained through real one-on-one conversations. KBIS provides a way for manufacturers and vendors to invest in those relationships in the simplest way possible - with a smile, a handshake and the most valuable of our resources: our time. Q: How do you feel exhibiting during KBIS adds value for the manufacturer? Rudisser: Blum participates in trade shows because we believe they help us build relationships with and present our solutions to the industry. Trade shows are a way for us, as a manufacturer, to connect with dealers and designers. Many times they only know of the products we offer - through their manufacturer's offering. KBIS gives us the opportunity to show them our full range of products, which they might not be aware of otherwise. How does your committee work to ensure KBIS is adding value to both the attendee and exhibitor? KBIS 2016 registration has been open for more than a month now - have you had a chance to register? It's not to miss! Insight from the KBIS Exhibitor Advisory Council In our last issue, we introduced the KBIS Exhibitor Advisory Council, a group of exhibitors who make a large commitment and are a great source of information and leadership in guiding the NKBA in constantly improving the show and ensuring our exhibitors are well represented. K+BB spoke with Blum CEO & president, Karl Rudisser - a member of the council and a KBIS exhibitor for 33 years - to get his insight on the benefits of attending the show and how the committee operates. 44 K+BB Rudisser: The exhibitor committee typically meets about three times a year (two times via phone conference and once in an all-day meeting). In the post-show meeting, we discuss and critique the show on subjects of what went well and what can be improved. Issues like ease of registration, flow and movement of people during the exhibition, quality of services offered, etc., are all heavily debated. During our one-day meeting, we typically discuss our long-term strategy for the show to make sure attendees and exhibitors want to come back to the next show. In our third meeting, which is just before the show, we get information about what's new at the upcoming show, and we typically discuss which companies and people should be selected for the committee. What are some reasons K&B professionals should care about attending KBIS? Rudisser: KBIS provides endless opportunities for kitchen & bath professionals to educate themselves - from seminars to face-to-face meetings with exhibitors. KBIS allows attendees to learn about the latest and greatest products in the market today, all in one place. It also gives them the opportunity to ask questions about the products and brands with which they may not be as familiar as they would like to be. What are some important things they should know about KBIS? Rudisser: Now that KBIS has joined efforts with the International Builders' Show to provide attendees with Design & Construction Week®, which showcases everything needed for a build or remodel, attendees needn't look any farther than this three-day, all-inclusive show. What trends do you foresee at KBIS 2016? Rudisser: Each year there seems to be more focus on design aspects - from the newest and most popular colors and finishes to the latest materials and technologies being used, such as engineered woods, repurposed products and materials, electronic assists for cabinets, etc. KBIS exhibitors provide every opportunity for attendees to find the products that will make their next project as unique as each of their clients' needs.
