TOP FLOOR. This is where the meeting room is lo- cated, and it reflects a different look and feel than the other levels. With nothing but a tile collection on display, the area is quiet, slick and uncluttered - a perfect place for clients to meet with a professional staff of experienced designers, undistracted. Catalogs and iPads are available to look through products and designs. "The windows on the top floor provide a clear view of the rooftops over London,"added Coppin. "It's a very nice place to be." 98 WORKING WITH historical buildings can be a task, but the Coppin Dockray design team spent time reinstating its traditional details and character. "Over the years, many internal walls and details had been removed to open up what was once a domestic space, but here we did the opposite," said Coppin. "We reinstated walls, proportions and details - such as skirtings, architraves and fireplaces - so that it now reads again as a domestic space, something London shoppers find familiar." Working displays were not possible in this historic location, but there is always someone on hand to talk to customers about product offerings. To avoid a cluttered or overly busy layout, Coppin worked with showroom staff to display a somewhat limited amount of product, but again, iPads and catalogs are readily available to see other available offerings. Adding light in the basement was not possible because of the low ceiling height and the fact that wiring had to be done in the valuable wall display space or in the joinery.The design team used fullheight, backlit screens to illuminate displays on that level and reinforce the branding. This new location was designed so that changes in displays or products would cause minimal interruption and require minimal design. In fact, this showroom already has two new displays. "We like to ensure we present clients with the newest of products at all times," said Arif Bhaluani, West One Bathrooms' showroom area manager. "The space has been designed to allow for displays to be changed with ease." And according to Bhaluani, the design of this new showroom is as unique as its other locations.
