Designer Krista Agapito of S&W Kitchens, a referral from the couple's coworker, said
the homeowners were open to ideas, and although they were thinking about resale value,
they really wanted spaces that fit their needs
and the look of their traditional home. With
helpful input from her clients, the designer
created a more functional, updated and aesthetically pleasing master bath and kitchen in
their home.
REWORKING THE MASTER BATH

The main goals for the dated 90s master were to
add much-needed storage, create a luxury hotellike look and feel and remove the eyesore of the
green marble bathtub in the middle of the space.
"The color and scale of the tub made it
seem more like an island than a fixture," said
Agapito. "It was hard to maneuver in the space
around it without tripping, and it definitely
did not aid in the client's desire to have an
elegant, functional, hotel-style bathroom. I
wanted to turn the tub into a prime feature
and focal point that still made the bathroom
feel spacious and luxurious."
STORAGE SOLUTIONS

While the husband wanted some additional
drawers in the master, it was more tailored to
the needs of the wife, who had the longer wish
list. Because the former space lacked a vanity
area, the wife had to stand up each morning to
put on her makeup. Agapito incorporated two
vanity areas with ample storage space but added
an L-shaped peninsula to hers to accommodate
a seated vanity area with open cabinets for hair
products and appliances.
"Rather than a dropped-down lower counter
section, we designed a continuous run of stone,
making both the sink area and the seating area
feel more spacious," said the designer, who also
incorporated a built-in medicine cabinet. "This
added perfect sconce-style lighting on each side
- integrated right into the mirrored door," which
she says houses an outlet inside for more concealed function.
NO LIMIT TO LUXURY

The clients wanted to go all the way in this master
bath, incorporating as many luxury finishes and
high-end features as possible. Agapito started by
installing a hex-shaped, polished marble mosaic
behind the 66-in. freestanding soaking tub, with
bronze- and silver-mirrored pieces to reflect natural light from a bedroom window across the hall.
"They wanted upscale, rich and elegant," she
added. "They wanted more than a spa feel - they
wanted it to feel expensive."

little room left in the budget,
but some of those things are
not budget busters, and they
can really make the diﬀerence
for the client."
