"Also, since you have to drive on the beach for access, timing with the tides
and rough ocean waves also comes into play," said Klebitz, who added that
she usually saw groups of wild horses walking on the beach on the way. "I
would time my travel with low tide."
REMOTE RETREAT

The 1,000-sq.-ft. carriage house is built on top of a three-car garage and is
adjacent to the main home. The homeowners wanted to have this separate
building to escape to when the other house is full of guests or rented out.They
also knew this would be the perfect place for a bride and groom to stay apart
from their wedding party.
The master suite features an open floor plan that makes the bathroom feel
like part of the bedroom. The only real division between the two spaces is a
central wall with a fireplace; the change from hardwood to tile also indicates
these are different rooms.This lack of doors takes advantage of the beach view,
which is visible from a balcony off of the bathroom.
"The homeowners really wanted to evoke the feeling of a sexy space, so
everything in the bedroom and bathroom are open to one another," said
Klebitz, adding that the only exception is the private toilet room. "It really
makes the one-bedroom home feel much bigger."

been overpowering and would
detract from the room's relaxing feel.

A honeymoon suite like this needed to make
guests feel indulged.The shower is large enough to
fit two people - a perfect feature for couples - and
the floor is made of river rock tile that naturally
feels massaging. The shower seat is granite with
a leather finish that won't get too slippery when
wet, and the shower enclosure is all clear glass.
A freestanding tub is placed so a bather can face
either the fireplace in the center wall or the view
of the water.
"Personally, my favorite part of the bathroom is
the freestanding tub because it evokes pure relaxation," said Klebitz.
The fireplace next to the tub is see-through, so
the bedroom is still visible from behind the wall,
and the view from the back deck can be seen from
the bed.This deck overlooks Currituck Sound, far
from the public beach frequented by tourists, so
the suite feels completely private.
