HONORING OUTSTANDING DESIGN
hat makes for an outstanding design? Is it creative
uses of materials and colors or making the impossible possible? I'm sure as a design professional you
could answer that question without hesitation, and
your answer would likely be very direct and come
with much conviction. I would also suspect this is
ultimately why you are good at what you do. That,
along with reading KBB religiously - shameless plug.
The fact is, what makes for an outstanding design is a loaded question, as
there are so many variables in any project.There are budget, space and timeline
considerations, not to mention very specific requests and requirements of the
client. Some of these requests may have even forced you to more creatively
source products or work through unique challenges on the fly. Perhaps the
client suddenly wanted to go in another direction. It happens.
You all have been there at one point or another. Let's be honest, I would
venture to say that even the most accomplished designer has at one point
designed a space that they frankly hated. You can admit it. However, does
that make the final project any less impactful? Isn't outstanding design really
based on exceeding the clients' expectations?

Pondering these questions is why this is one
of the issues I personally enjoy every year. For
nearly 20 years, KBB has hosted its annual Design Awards to highlight the best of the best in
kitchen, bath and showroom design. What makes
this such a rich issue is that you will see how your
peers overcame challenges to bring the client's
vison to life. It is our hope that you will walk away
inspired and with a new perspective on the design
challenges you face with every project.

winners. To our panel of esteemed industry judges, thank you for counsel, your time - bust most
importantly, joining us on this journey. And to

very special edition as we honor those who truly
