Finding Inspiration
"Our team draws inspiration from an array
of industries - especially fashion. Some may
view surfacing as a utilitarian element of
design, but we see it as a way to make a statement in a space and to transform something
like a kitchen island into a focal point. We
also find inspiration in the unexpected, like
the beautiful decay of materials and how
that can translate into a surface."

"I like to look cross-industry, especially
in automotive, architecture and fashion. I
like to look at fashion because those trends
change so fast. One exception, however, is
jeans.They have certainly evolved over time,
but the idea is the same - very similar to
stainless-steel appliances."

Favorite Part of the Job
"The act of balancing all the requirements of form, function and
technical aspects with being on point with market demands
in aesthetics truly does require a degree of creative problem
solving. Although there are principles you can follow, there is
no clear and concise path from concept to fruition, so the true
engagement with developing and creating something comes
into being while assessing and working through those complexities. That engagement with a new product, in my opinion,
is the best part of the job."

THE FINISHED PRODUCTS

Inspired by the industrialized look of oxidized steel,
Trillium from Cosentino is composed of a mix of
volcanic shades of gray, brown and deep black to
create an eﬀect that is unexpectedly smooth to the
touch. Its light- to-dark contrast forms a somewhat
metallic eﬀect that gives the surface an edgy and
authentic appearance.
Franz Viegener has created the
visual equivalent of a die-cut piece
of steel with its Edge Collection.
Edge is skillfully manufactured
from solid brass and is available in
polished nickel, polished chrome,
oil-rubbed bronze, brushed
nickel, matte-black chrome, ﬂat
black, rose gold, polished gold
and brushed gold.

One of Pierce's
favorite products
she had a hand in
designing is the
Decora Cabinetry
Angora ﬁnish. This
creamy white base
color, shown here
on the perimeter
cabinetry, is topped
with a black wet
glaze to create a
whisper-gray cabinet
color with an overall
veiled eﬀect.

The adjustable Dixie Pivot Sconce from
Tracy Glover Studio is a modern and
elegant means of placing a spot of light
exactly where it's needed. Made to
order and UL listed, the sconce is
shown here with a clear and steel
blue cone-shaped glass diﬀuser,
which has half-wrap pattern
detailing. Multiple color/ﬁnish,
pattern, shape and size
combinations can
be requested.

According to Bellinger, it was rewarding
to bring the Matte Collection - the
ﬁrst line of fully customizable kitchen
appliances for GE Appliances' new
Café brand - to life from concept to
production. It is shown here in matte
white with brushed-bronze hardware.
Each handle in the collection will carry a
copper cuﬀ with a discreet Café logo.
