Products and materials with staying power tend to be modest. White/natural
Shaker cabinets are one example because they provide a clean and streamlined
appearance that blends well with nearly any architectural style.Those of us in
the trade are eager to move on, but the fact is that these cabinets aren't going
anywhere. Calacatta and Carrara marble offer an elegant and sophisticated
look with a timeless appeal. They may be replaced, in part, by quartz lookalikes, but the appearance remains.
We like to put appliances behind cabinet panels, when possible, so that we
can specify "best in class"instead of selecting a product suite that, in many cases,
requires some unwanted tradeoffs. Some brands may have a really good counterdepth refrigerator,for example,but their dishwashers aren't known for reliability.
If both products are going to receive a cabinet panel front, it doesn't matter if we
use the same brand. We can select the best available option for each appliance
without having to consider aesthetics.
There's no question that quartz is the go-to countertop material these days;
it's low-maintenance, and its diverse palette is hard to beat. We specify Rutt
Cabinetry quite a bit because the company offers us a level of craftsmanship
and customization that can be hard to find with some of the larger cabinet
manufacturers.
We like the Element Entra LED adjustable recessed downlight by Tech
Lighting. It has a hot-aiming, flanged or flangeless ceiling appearance, three
interchangeable optics and plays nice with our Lutron dimmers. We've
begun specifying Lutron smart lighting controls for most of our renovation
projects. They offer seamless integration with Alexa and other smart home
products, are simple to install and are simple to use.
