CHANGE CAN BE GOOD
018 was a big year of change for me and my family. Some of the changes we initiated, and some
were just handed to us. The hardest one was the
sudden loss of my mother-in-law last June. She
was a rock for our family and an amazing mom
and grandmother. Working through the loss has
been challenging but has given us all a greater appreciation for living life to the fullest and savoring
every moment.
Another change was the addition of a puppy last summer. This change
has been a lot of fun for my kids and our other dog, but it has also been
a lot of work. It is January, and I am still working to get that little dog
house trained!
Another transformation we are experiencing - and I am sure many of us
in this industry have gone through or are going through this - are our recent
home renovation projects. We have embarked on everything from adding a
portico, to finishing our basement, to adding a pool in the backyard. All these
projects are exciting but are also a lot to manage.

wanted to give the puppy a
Hawaiian name.
Being in the midst of so many renovations has
given me an up-close-and-personal look at the
labor shortage we are facing. Projects that should
take a couple of days are taking a couple of weeks
just to get an estimate and then another several
weeks to a month or more before the contractor is
showing up to get started. By the time everything
is complete, the whole process will have taken
several months.
One more big change is my new role as show
director of KBIS. I have been working as the sales
manager and assistant show director at KBIS for
the past couple of years, but I am excited to take
this next step in my career. Brian Pagel has been
a wonderful mentor to me over the last several
years and will continue to share guidance and be
involved with the NKBA, KBIS and KBB.
We have many new things in store for you at
KBIS 2019, and of course we have the CHANGE
in venue as we head back to Las Vegas! We are
excited to bring back the Discovery District and
all the amazing programing on the KBISNeXT
Stage.We will also introduce many new things like
Salon by KBIS, KBIS EDIT and Lightovation.
Change is inevitable, and it forces us to examine
our way of doing things and hopefully improve
our practices and perspectives. On that note, I am
looking forward to a year full of great change in
our industry and at KBIS 2019!
