It's an age-old debate: aesthetics versus function. What is more
important? Playing to stereotypes, architects are supposed to be more
concerned with the function of product, while designers are supposed
to be consumed with appearance. Both have a place in our field, so
do we have to choose? Professionals in the field as well as educators,
Doug Walter, AIA, LEED AP; and Karyn Judd Reilly, CKD, NCIDQ,
approach the subject of lighting from these different perspectives.
Doug has studied, created, and corrected spaces formerly deficient
in light for his clients for many years. Karyn has worked with clients,
retailers and manufacturers to determine the best aesthetics choices
for residential applications. Both have experimented and researched
to obtain the optimum results of lighting design from their own
viewpoints and experience. What happens when they contrast and
debate the results? How can years of experience be wrong? Our
architect and designer deliberate this lighting design discussion to
determine whose "cuisine reigns supreme." Join us for this informative
and interactive presentation as we explore the changing needs in the
field of residential lighting design.

Presenting and Selling Your Design: Build Value and
Make Sales

It has been determined through surveys that the majority of kitchen
designers wish they made a larger income for the work they do. Much
of this is due to the fact that many designers have a lack of sales skills
and often do not take part in self-improvement to gain these skills. It
is rare that kitchen and bath designers acquire skills in design as well
as sales, in fact most have no specific sales training at all. My training
is specifically designed to merge selling techniques with design
presentations to give designers tools they can use immediately to
improve their sales, communicate better with clients, and sell more of
their work.

Cabinets have been produced almost the same over the last 50 years
with production being modified to only enhance profit while maintaining
process. I use my years of experience working at Walt Disney World
