KBB: Tell us how you got into product design. Can you also share some detail on
your brand relationships?
Quinn: I tend to work much better when faced with a challenge, such as the

need for a solution or product that doesn't yet exist. Quite often, I would design the necessary product and have it manufactured locally. Once installed,
we would see the solution executed and the potential to use the product in
other designs. As a result, I found myself already designing products and
decided to look for quality, capable companies to partner with and introduce
some of these ideas to a mass market.
I came up with the idea of the Julien: Home Refinements SocialCorner
sink as a result of watching how clients were challenged by two people working together at an island. With two sides that can accommodate more than
one person at a time, the sink eliminates the need for a second one and creates
a social use of the space.
When AKDO approached me about designing tile, I was already working with them on the House Beautiful Kitchen of the Year in Atlanta, where
our design called for mixing marble and metal in a field tile. I helped them
quickly develop the concept, and now it is one of their best sellers. Subsequently, AKDO asked me to work with them to create my own collection,
now known as Impressions.
Product design takes a lot of time and is not a quick money maker. However, it is an exciting way to execute great ideas and solve a challenge within
the industry.

KBB: What made you decide to open another showroom in Nashville?
Quinn: My partner, Ric Parrish, and I looked to open a showroom in Nashville

in 2005, however, with the impending recession the project never got off
the ground. Over the years, we have continued to do a tremendous amount
of business there and have developed strong relationships with Nashville
builders, architects and designers. In 2018, we revisited the opportunity, and
since then it has been a stars-aligned type of scenario. We are close friends
with our business partners and together have a team that I feel confident will
create and run a top-notch design center to cater to a rapidly growing and
exciting design community.
KBB: What has been your most notable award?
Quinn: Winning first place in the 2003-2004 Sub-Zero/Wolf Kitchen

Design Contest was a game changer for me. Gaining this level of recognition at an early age really provided some tremendous exposure and built my
confidence. I was recently named by Atlanta Magazine as one of Atlanta's
500, and I am humbled and honored that a kitchen and bath designer was
recognized among politicians, celebrities and CEOs.

KBB: How did you get into designing show homes?
Quinn: As a result of our reputation and affiliations with top magazines, build-

ers, architects and designers, we are often selected to participate in charity show
houses. Aside from designing your own home, these can be some of the best
opportunities to design with fewer restrictions. Fifty percent of the time, it is a
spec house and there is not a homeowner involved. You are given the space to
create something amazing where you can express your true self. Often, we do
have to work with specific products and brands, however, I like that challenge.

KBB: What is one of your pet peeves?
Quinn: Design plagiarism. It takes a lot of energy and focus to be authentic,

and good and unique design should not come from copying from social media
and ads in magazines. Find your inspirations, authenticity and originality, create your own solutions, and make it your own - you will elevate your designs
and ultimately be more successful.

KBB: What has been your most important achievement?
Quinn: The family we have created at Design Gal-

leria - more than half of our team has been here
for over a decade. We have a democratic, creative,
inspiring group, and everyone is involved in making sure this is a place they love to come to work. I
am lucky to have a partner who oversees the dayto-day management of the business and allows me
to focus on being a creative visionary in my work.

KBB: What does the future hold for you?
Quinn: On a personal and family note, I would

love to travel more for fun, as I find my greatest
inspiration in my travels. Every year we try to take
a trip to a new part of the world, and I would love
to find time to visit Australia or New Zealand.
I'm still learning the work/life balance, and I'd like
to spend more uncle time with my five beautiful
nieces and nephews.
On the professional side, I'd be thrilled to spend
more time conceptualizing new solutions and
products; I thoroughly enjoy the product design
process and the opportunity to partner with great
businesses and manufacturers. The excitement
of opening the Nashville Design Collective and
the growth of Design Galleria Kitchen and Bath
Studio are without a doubt a huge part of my near
future. Clearly, I still need to work a ton more on
my work/life balance!
