EDUCATION IS GENIUS

he continuing quest for knowledge is what drives our
membership to be exceptional. It's a sentiment we hear
all the time at NKBA.
As the premier trade organization for the kitchen
and bath industry, one of our pivotal roles is to provide
professional development opportunities that help keep
our members up to date on the latest in everything
related to the industry, so they can grow in their careers and keep their own
businesses thriving.
We accomplish this partly by sharing exclusive research on key business
and design trends impacting the most important aspects of the industry.
We also offer a broad array of Voices from the Industry (VFTI) sessions at
KBIS each year on topics of critical interest to a wide range of professionals,
from kitchen and bath specialty training and design to growing a business,
customer service and management.
And of course, our highly regarded certification programs - Associate,
Certified and Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer - are the gold
standard in kitchen and bath design expertise recognized throughout the
industry. In 2018, we added the CLIPP designation - Certified Living In
Place Professional - to the portfolio of certifications available through the
association, in partnership with the Living in Place Institute.
Perhaps equally critical to individual development, however, is the growing array of learning opportunities that can be tailored to a wider range of
disciplines. The NKBA Specialty Badge Program, which made its debut at
KBIS in February, provides a designation for any members - not limited
to designers - who demonstrate concentrated knowledge in a specific area.

The first five Specialty Badges include Cabinetry, Remodeling, Living In Place, Sales & Marketing and Floor Plans & Specifications. Five more
badges will be added in the next year.
The program was developed by NKBA's professional development staff and vetted by subject
matter experts in each field. This is a way for everyone to show a specialized skill set in a particular
area. Members enrolled in the Specialty Badge
courses have access to online study materials and
have a full year to take a formal exam, also online,
to earn the credential.
To maintain the designation, badge holders
must either retest every two years, attend a total
of four NKBA chapter events in two years, join
an NKBA webinar session or attend a national
event or a VFTI session in the discipline at KBIS.
And speaking of webinars, NKBA offers four
free online sessions each month in a particular
area. These 60-minute webinars each feature a
presentation by an expert in the specific subject
matter, delivered via a virtual platform. The sessions offer NKBA-certified attending participants
0.1 continuing education unit (CEU) per event
- CEUs are required to maintain certification
(20 hours within a two-year cycle), as well as the
Specialty Badges.
Webinars are a quick and convenient way to
collect CEUs and bump up knowledge in a particular discipline. For the remainder of this year,
the topics are as follows:

"July: Business Management
"August: Designing with Surfaces
"September: Design for "Living in Place"
"October: Storage Solutions
"November: Design Software
"December: Building Trends
