The only way forward for the smart home is
through teamwork.There are hundreds of companies offering smart home products, but consumers
don't want the hassle of having to use different
apps or voice commands to utilize them.
"Given the exponential growth of smart devices, we are seeing necessary alliances forming
to rein in all the choices and consolidate many
products and features under unified control systems and devices," said J. Barry Schurr, COO at
Osbee Industries, a home-automation design and
installation firm.
When undergoing a project with smart tech,
it is important to consider a smart home system
so the client can control everything easily. According to Ruth Prentice, connected experience
manager at Thermador, consumers want two key
components in their smart home system: seamless
product integration and a customizable system.
Smart home products are meant to be all about
ease of use; this is only going to be possible if a
digital home ecosystem is streamlined.
"Smart home products continue to be integrated into the various smart home ecosystems, such
as Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit and Google
Assistant, to give consumers control over their
various devices within one central hub," said Tom
Tylicki, senior product manager of digital and
IoT at Moen.
Partnerships between smart home businesses
and outside services will also continue to evolve.
Digital recipes are now being integrated with
kitchen appliances for guided cooking; delivery

services are being linked to enable automatic ordering of needed items. The
ultimate goal is the context-aware home where tasks are completed with the
least amount of time and effort from the homeowner; the only route to this
is by streamlining smart home products and working together.
"In the end, it all gets back to one idea: Home automation, like interior
design, is about understanding and serving the individual needs of the client
and giving them the home of their dream,"said Schurr."It's all about making
our clients happy."
