To celebrate the historical reference of the
building, the architect and design team left in
place the beams, exposed brick, timber columns
and the massive, antiquated elevator mechanism, which they say gets a lot of comments
from visitors.
ADDRESSING ISSUES
Some electrical restructuring had to be done in
the 100+-year-old building to bring it up to date
for the working kitchens in the showroom. To let
visitors know there is more than just the one floor,
the team used architectural elements like metal
railings to create more of an open space and allow
guests to see as much as possible.
But according to the design team, the main
project challenge was capturing the depth of what
they were trying to do within the space and having
the outside world understand that they were not
new to the industry - just in a new location.
"We reached out to existing clients and anyone
within the trade and invited them to come to the
space and see what we achieved,"said Dandamudi.
"They already knew we existed, but they didn't
know the extent to what we are capable of, and
now they do."
The judges were impressed by this showroom because of its combination of versatile
finishes and styles, its superb execution and
full product offering.
