S O LV I N G T HE CLIENTS IN THIS PROJECT were faced with an all-too-common decision - renovate their existing home or build a new one. Price, of course, is always a factor, but they were also considering their ideal location and the fact that the homes they had seen were too cookie-cutter for their tastes. The homeowners turned to the team at San Antonio-based Haven Design and Construction, and in addition to updating the master bath and kitchen, they were also tasked with creating a more functional master closet - the impetus for the decision to renovate. The clients wanted the team to go all out in the master suite and create spaces like one would find in a luxury hotel. They wanted a more functional layout without the unsightly tub and dated glass block in the shower, a neutral color palette to replace the dark materials, design elements that emulated tranquility and a larger master closet. Because the original builder had misjudged the home's setback lines 18 years prior, the master closets went over those lines and that square footage had to be removed. The next goal was to create one large master closet without expanding the footprint of the house, which the team was able to do by borrowing some square footage from the former master bath. 59
