The kitchen features two
10-ft. islands - one for food
prep and one for seating. The

massive backsplash are handpicked quartzite.

the perimeter units and white
oak for the island. The design
team also created a custom
coffee bar off of the kitchen in
white oak.
A
DARK AND DATED YET SPRAWLING PROPERTY
on Lake Lillinonah was not taking advantage of
the beautiful waterfront views. The client, who
has three young kids and several dogs, wanted to
combine the main home and the guest house on 30 acres in Bridgewater,
Conn., to create a weekend escape where she and her husband could entertain often. The expansive project required a gut renovation.
"This was a two-year labor of love for me and my team of architects and
artisans," said Denise Davies, CEO and founder of D2 Interieurs, who
explained that her client had hired her for a project before this one after she
saw the designer's work in a local magazine.
The previous kitchen was too small and had no flow, and the master bath
was cut up into segments instead of being the spa-like, flowing space the client desired. Both the kitchen and bath did nothing to maximize their view,
which was high on the list of the homeowner's requirements.
CUSTOM KITCHEN
The goal here was to open up this space so that it flowed easily into the family
room and to create a space Davies refers to as a "cook's dream." She incorporated two oversized islands - one for function and one for seating - so there
was ample space for multiple people to move around comfortably. Adjacent
breakfast dining was incorporated, and rustic beams tie the spaces together
to achieve the modern farmhouse style the client desired.
The designer chose blue for certain elements like the custom leather
breakfast area chairs, the pendants and the quartzite countertops, as the hue
is the client's favorite. A custom blue rope chandelier creates a statement piece
without stealing the views.
"We chose pops of blue to mimic the lake," said Davies. "I also wanted
the waterfall countertops to have movement without making too much
of a statement," said Davies, who added that the massive backsplash is also
hand-picked quartzite.
