NE OF THE MOST IMPACTED COMPONENTS

in the kitchen and bath industry this year
is storage. After spending more time at
home and less time in restaurants - and
even at the grocery store - consumers
want their kitchens to hold more but in an
organized, uncluttered manner with less
bulky cabinets. And in the bathroom, the trend for
a relaxing space continues but with an emphasis
on cleanliness and peace. Above all, homeowners
are looking for spaces that cater to their specific
needs and make the home a place of sanctuary,
even when life feels chaotic.

THE DEMAND FOR FUNCTIONALITY
AND VERSATILITY

In the last decade, the kitchen in particular has
become the multi-use hub in the house, acting as
a homework station, gathering area and a cooking
and eating space. Lately, this room has taken on
even more functions, like serving as an office and
homeschooling area.
"If the work-from-home trend continues -
or becomes more popular even after the end of
the pandemic - the kitchen will remain a multifunctional space and often the stage of virtual
meetings, so added storage is necessary to keep
the environment clutter free and ready for its
camera close-up," said Alberto Snaidero, CEO
of Snaidero USA.
According to Snaidero, consumers will likely
ask for increased pantry and refrigeration space
as a result of COVID-19. But when it comes to
cabinetry, consumers don't want more; rather they
want fewer enclosed compartments and more
open shelving for a modern aesthetic. In the cabinets they do have, they want completely optimized
organization with a variety of storage options.
"Each individual interacts with the rooms in
their homes in very different ways and has an
equally unique relationship to their possessions
and how they store them,"said Diana Viera, managing partner at Italkraft, adding that as 2020
progresses, homeowners are having to adjust their
lifestyles and need their homes to flow with the

At the same time, consumers looking to renovate soon probably have a
good idea of what built-in storage components will help them in the long
run. For example, no matter what the future holds, a client might see an
advantage to a designated coffee station outside the master bathroom or a
walk-in pantry with organized food storage.
"There is definitely a trend toward more specific functionality,"said Stephanie Pierce, director of design and trends at MasterBrand Cabinets. "Homeowners are putting more consideration into their lifestyle activities and how
to make their new spaces work for them, especially with people spending
more time at home than ever."
