I see franchise organizations circumventing investments in expanded and
quality training at all levels, opting in-

This is a dangerous mistake.
Franchise organizations cannot see
investments in training curriculum
and resources as simply an operation-

al expense. Rather, training is just as
much of a marketing expense, because
the results of your training should
always provide a better brand experience for your clients or customers.
Never have I seen the temptation
to streamline training through technology as great as it is in the current
senior-care landscape. The demand
for qualified, professional caregivers
has never been higher - and as our
aging population continues to grow,
that demand will increase exponentially. Many homecare franchise organizations, in an effort to more quickly
train and employ professional caregivers, are adopting online training
modules that walk through everything from nutrition to personal care.
But when you place a caregiver in
the home of a client, will he or she be
truly prepared to help a senior get in
and out of the shower safely if they
haven't felt the weight of someone's
hand in practice as they navigate the
slippery tiled floor? In these critical
moments, we need caregivers to feel
confident and comfortable.

In today's landscape, technology is
making it easier than ever to accomplish many of the tasks associated
with business. There are many opportunities for these efficiencies in
home care - scheduling, care logs
and hiring, for example - but when it
comes to helping professional caregivers understand the many nuances
and the personal nature of caring for
our aging population, nothing can replace the value of in-person training.
It is vital to combine high-technology
resources with high-touch opportunities for employees.
We are in the human services business. The term itself makes it clear
