deposits at the end of the June this year.
The bank grew its loan book 10.3% year-onyear to 254 billion Dominican pesos ($5.44
billion) by end-June and increased deposits
8.13% to 304 billion pesos.
BanReservas' shift in focus and
continuing dominance in the local market
make it the winner of LatinFinance's Bank
of the Year Caribbean and Bank of the Year
Dominican Republic awards for 2016.
The ratings agencies have also noticed
BanReservas' solid performance. In July,
Moody's confirmed the bank's B3 credit
ratings and upped the outlook to positive,
while Fitch Ratings kept the B+ rating with a
positive outlook and Feller Rate upheld the
a AA+ grade with a stable outlook.
BanReservas has also maintained
its lead in the investment banking and
capital markets segments. The investment
banking division structured transactions
worth more than $1.5 billion in the past
year, while the capital markets unit
participated in $4.5 billion in Rule 144A/Reg
S bond issues. BanReservas is the only bank
in the Dominican Republic that takes part
in private placements in the cross-border
bond market.
The bank has also provided nearly $250

million in financing to five tourism projects
in the past year, as part of a push into the
sector. It has also opened a remittance
division, looking to bring Dominicans
who receive money from abroad into the
banking system. LF

BANCO FICOHSA

Ficohsa has consolidated
its position as the top bank
in Honduras as it continues
to expand across the rest of
Central America
Grupo Financiero Ficohsa stands
above all other banks in Honduras with
almost 20% of the sector's net assets and
it continues to grow in Central America
as a whole. The bank has incorporated
Citi's retail operations in Honduras and
Nicaragua over the past year and a half,
and also expanded its services in Panama.

Ficohsa also commemorated 10 years of
doing business in the US in 2016.
Ficohsa's dominant position in its
home market and its commitment to
keep expanding in the region make it the
winner of LatinFinance's Bank of the Year
Honduras and Bank of the Year Central
America awards for 2016.
At the close of June, the Honduran
branch had 68.6 billion lempiras ($2.96
billion) in total assets, up from 64.4 billion
lempiras at the same time last year. Its
loan book totaled 47.8 billion lempiras,
compared to 45.1 billion lempiras at the
same time last year. Deposits equaled
41.7 billion lempiras, up a bit from 41.2
billion lempiras at end-June 2015. The
bank recorded 417 million lempiras in net
income in the first six months of 2016.
Fitch Ratings, for one, took note of
Ficohsa's solid performance and raised
its long-term ratings earlier this year to
AA- from A+ on a local scale with a stable
outlook.
Ficohsa has also positioned itself as
a conduit for foreign investors looking
to make money in Honduras and other
markets in Central America. In August, US
commodities trader Cargill lent $31 million
