stations. Shampoo, conditioner and
dryers are all provided for $15.
And if you're looking to spoil your
pooch further, Naked Dog Bistro
downtown offers grain-free bakery
goodies made fresh in-house daily.
This canine bistro and boutique
also sells small-batch dog food
made with fresh, organic and
gluten-free ingredients.
Once your pet is well fed, pay
a visit to Mystic Reiki & Wellness,
where local practitioner Kerry
Walker-Collins conducts animal-specific reiki sessions on the
beach or in an animal's home. The
ancient Japanese healing treatment
used to reduce stress and promote
relaxation is offered to dogs using
both hands-on and hands-off
techniques, depending on a dog's
temperament and mood. Most sessions last roughly 30 to 60 minutes.
If you're curious about how your
dog's visit is going, try pet aura
photography at The Chakra Shack.
During a typical animal aura analysis, which reveals things like personality type and emotional-energetic
state, a dog's front paws are placed
on a pad and the shop's aura video
station, an interactive multimedia
biofeedback computer system,
snaps an image of the electromagnetic energy field surrounding the
pup. The aura's color variations are
determined by different vibrational
frequencies, providing a glimpse
into a pet's personality and mood.
The Cliff restaurant's Puppy
Plates menu offers a variety of
selections for furry dine-in guests
on the patio. Menu items-chicken
breast, oatmeal, a beef patty, salmon and prime rib-are all paired
with steamed white rice (served on
a Frisbee) and a complimentary
bowl of ice water.
Expert Tip: Ryan
Keller-professional dog trainer,
walker and sitter
-suggests dog
owners take their
pooch to check
out the Laguna
Beach County Water
District office downtown. Besides
a gold-plated fire hydrant, "little do
people know there is a koi pond out
front with turtles in there," Keller says.

For the
Beach Lover
With more than 30 coves, beaches
and parks, Laguna Beach is the
ideal spot for seaside fun. The
area's 8 miles of coastline offer
something for everyone.
Start at Main Beach where
popular activities include beach
volleyball, basketball, swimming,
bodyboarding and bodysurfing.
Just to the north, Heisler Park
offers magnificent coastline views
that are perfect for a stroll along
the paved path, a picnic on the
grass, an outdoor concert or a
barbecue with friends. Be sure to
explore the area's Glenn E. Vedder
Ecological Reserve, an underwater
park with tide pools that stretch
from the north end of Main Beach
to Diver's Cove.
Want to "hang 10?" Take a surf
or paddleboard lesson, or rent a
skimboard or boogie board, and
head to Victoria Beach, Thalia
Street Beach, Cleo Street Beach
or Brooks Street Beach. For great
snorkeling and diving, bring your
own gear or rent from a local
shop and check out Shaw's Cove,
Diver's Cove, Treasure Island, Moss
Point, Pearl Street and Woods
Cove. Favorite body surfing spots

await at Crescent Bay Beach, Main
Beach and Woods Cove.
The only beach that provides
fire pits within Laguna-Aliso
County Beach just to the south-
is a great place for an evening
bonfire, and during a full moon
visitors can join in on a drum circle.
Getting to Thousand Steps Beach
is a workout with 230 steps down
to the sand-it feels like a lot more.
Situated between Ninth and 10th
streets, off of South Coast Highway,
this intimate cove features views of
some of the area's most magnificent private homes. It's also a hot
spot for surfing and volleyball.
Expert tip: For Laguna resident

James Pribram,
former professional
surfer and
founder of
environmentally focused
nonprofit
The Eco-Warrior
Foundation, the beach is where
his heart is. "The beaches in
Laguna ... are some of the most
unique and beautiful beaches
in the world ... decorated with
secluded coves and reefs, making
for crystal-clean water on sunny
days-perfect for snorkeling and
stand-up paddling."
