AT T R AC TIO N S Art in Public Spaces I Explore the wealth and creativity of local and international artists who have created more than 80 unique pieces of public art located throughout Laguna Beach. n the summer of 2012 the City of Laguna Beach installed three public art pieces in the stunning ocean front Heisler Park. The art works, "Time Connected," "Continuous Rotation" and "Tidal Pull" are based on a poem by Shelly Cooper titled "Giggle Crack." The artwork features mosaics and bronze sculptures with ceramic inlay, complemented by large natural stone slab benches. Husband and wife artist team, Scott and Naomi Schoenherr explained, "Our goal was to create an environment where the visitors can encounter and explore through the artwork with elements of discovery. Many cohesive elements were used to create a flow through the sculpture garden, connecting each artwork and also the City to the ocean." Other recent additions to the City's public art collection can be seen on Broadway with an artist-designed railing by Marsh Scott and sculpture by Cheryl Ekstrom. The artist- designed handrail is created of stainless steel and fused glass. Marsh Scott said, "The glass panels depict the colors of the canyon leading to the ocean. This location is the first glimpse visitors get of the ocean and where a transition from the canyon begins." Opposite is Cheryl's bronze sculpture "Warriors United." The figures represent protection and strength. Other works include the "Laguna Greeter" statue (near Main Beach), which commemorates Eiler Larsen, who spent many years on this corner 18 FOR MORE INFORMATION LOG ON TO VISITLAGUNABEACH.COM greeting passersby, to a 9/11 memorial incorporating beams from the World Trade Center, "Semper Memento," designed by Jorge Dubin.
