with Crown Royal Special
Reserve-full-bodied, velvety
smooth and mellow, with oak
notes and rich, spicy flavors of
vanilla and cinnamon.

JULY 6

Rye whiskey
This spicy liquor was the dominant
whiskey during the Whiskey
Rebellion, observed in July. Think
for a moment of rye bread's
unmistakable bite. Rye whiskey-
made with at least 51 percent rye
in the mash-has a similar but
subtler bite.
Pick up a bottle of Woodford
Reserve Rye Whiskey. Sip it
neat, then mix up a Manhattan:
Add to a mixing glass 2 ounces
of the whiskey, 1 ounce sweet
vermouth, 2 dashes Angostura
bitters and ice. Stir for 30-40
seconds. Strain into a cocktail
glass, garnish with a bourboninfused cherry, and say "Cheers"
to Whiskey Rebellion Day!

JULY 13

Pimm's

Look! It's a gin! It's a cordial! No,
it's PIMM's No. 1! This unique
London spirit is a gin-based,
herbal and fruity liqueur-herbal
botanicals, caramelized orange
and delicate spices. The PIMM's
Cup has become the traditional
drink of Wimbledon, played this
year from July 1-14.
Try it first on ice, then mix up a
PIMM's Cup: add ice to a tall glass,
top with 2 ounces Pimm's and 4
ounces lemonade or lemon-lime
soda. Stir, garnish with a mint
sprig, cucumber slice, strawberry
slice and/or apple slice, then turn
on the telly to watch the tourney.

JULY 20

Aged Tequila
In preparation for National Tequila
Day, July 24, let's step up your
tequila game to an aged spirit-
reposado, añejo or extra añejo.
Try Casa Noble's Reposado or
Anejo tequilas, aged in French
white oak barrels for one year
or two years (respectively), or
Casamigos Reposado or Anejo
from Casamigos, the distillery
co-founded by George Clooney.
Look for flavors of toasted oak,
butterscotch, caramel, cocoa,
vanilla and, of course, agave.

JULY 27

Tennessee whiskey
One important element sets
Tennessee whiskey apart from other
bourbons: the distinctive Lincoln
County process of charcoal filtering
(aka mellowing or leaching). Jack
Daniel Distillery, for example, runs
its new make through 10 feet of
sugar maple charcoal, leaving it
lighter and cleaner.

Try Jack Daniel's No. 7, the
world's top-selling whiskey, neat,
on the rocks or in your favorite
whiskey cocktail.

AUGUST 3

Cachaça

On Brazil's Dia de Independência,
treat yourself to the country's
version of rum-a sugar-based
spirit made directly from fresh
sugar cane rather than juice or
molasses. It's sweet, of course,
but a bit more vegetal. A similar
sugar-cane-processed spirit, Rhum
Agricole, comes from Martinique.
Try Lebulon Cachaça, with
an herbal and citrusy nose. Best
enjoyed in a Brazilian Caipirinha:
cut half a lime into four wedges
and drop the wedges into an
Old Fashioned glass. Sprinkle a
teaspoon of sugar on the wedges
and muddle. Top with ice and 2½
ounces of cachaça and stir.

AUGUST 10

Flavored Rum
If a flavor goes with rum, put
it in the bottle-like banana,
coconut, mango, pineapple and
lime! Save a stop when shopping
for cocktail ingredients-and a
step when making a cocktail.
Try Kenny Chesney's Blue
Chair Bay Banana Rum in a
Pirate Flag: pour 1½ ounces rum
over ice in an Old Fashioned glass
then top with diet cola. Argh,
matey!
