Whenever I host a party I like to
take the pressure off the bartender
when the first rush of guests arrive.
That's why I always make a batch
of Cedarwood or similar cocktail
ahead of time.

As my guests arrive, these refreshing
cocktails in a variety of champagne
flutes and assorted highball glasses
(think yard sale finds) are on huge
serving trays ready to be enjoyed. No
one rushes the bar and yet everyone
starts with a welcome cocktail!

The traditional Cedarwood is cranberry juice mixed with ginger ale, vodka and
lemon juice; however, I make mine with gin. Other variations include using diet
soda and light cranberry juice. No matter which option you mix, the Cedarwood
is a great spring cocktail that everyone seems to enjoy. You can find the recipe for
this drink and many others in this issue of Spirited Virginia.
The Lunar New Year calendar says orange is one of the luckiest colors for 2019. So
check out our story "Orange You Glad It's Spring?" saluting orange-flavored spirits
with recipes that use orange liquors and liqueurs as their base. Recipes start on
page 12.
