SALES CLIMB
One intriguing figure is that, while alcohol consumption in America has gone down for three years
in a row, RTD sales have continued to climb.
According to Krysta Gahagen of Linkfluence, people are relentlessly chatting about them online with
social media conversations about RTD's growing
by 670% in 2019. Consumers are especially interested in low calorie and natural options, and they
find the packaging very "Instagrammable."
What does the future hold for RTD's? Danny
Brager, Senior Vice President for Beverage Alcohol
at Nielsen, is confident that their popularity will continue to grow. Hard seltzers will keep trending for at
least the next year, but hard coffees, hard kombuchas, and other alcohol-based drinks will also
become major players in the category. In addition,
Brager expects growth in canned wine, wine-based
cocktails, and new spins on traditional cocktails, such
as the "mezcal mule."
This sounds like great news for the consumer.
Plenty of new brands will be entering the marketplace, and we'll have a lot more options to choose
from. The RTD craze will probably change over the
next year or two, but it won't be going away.
