GEORGE WASHINGTON NATIONAL FOREST Get Outside! The area is a haven for outdoor lovers. CHRIS WEISLER L EXINGTON, Buena Vista and Rockbridge County attract adventurers of all kinds. A gateway to the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Appalachian Trail, Buena Vista is also an Appalachian Trail Community. Glen Maury Park in Buena Vista hosts music and festivals each summer. Camping along the Maury River is ideal for easy access to fishing and kayaking. The park aslo offers mountain bike trails, swimming, tennis and more. Adjacent to Glen Maury Park is Vista Links, the 18-hole par 72 championship public golf course designed by Rick Jacobson. Trails are right at hand in Rockbridge County. The seven-mile Chessie Nature Trail connects Buena Vista to Lexington and can be walked, run or biked. Shorter waterside walks include the Buena Vista Riverwalk and the Woods Creek Trail through Lexington. The Cedar Creek Trail passes below the Natural Bridge at Natural Bridge State Park. The trail leads past the Monacan Indian Living History Exhibit and ends at beautiful Lace Falls. At Boxerwood Nature Center & Woodland Garden, wander through native plants and streams to discover wildlife. Ambitious hikers can explore our two favorite mountains-Big House and Little House. And the boulders of Devil's Marbleyard are one of the coolest outdoor experiences we have to offer. Consider the Gems of Rockbridge Geocaching Trail, a grown-up version of an Easter egg hunt.
