* Indoor climbing facilities are a great way
to introduce yourself to the sport and to
train to transition into outdoor climbing.
Most gyms offer beginner to intermediate
classes to help develop technique and skills.
There are several in the Roanoke Valley,
including The River Rock and the Charlotte
Fox Climbing Wall at Hollins University.
* Find an accredited guide service for rock
climbing instruction. They are easy to find
around popular climbing areas.
* Before climbing, consult with your doctor,
particularly if you have been inactive, are
overweight, or have a medical condition
that might be worsened by rock climbing.
