Tackle the Walkabout Outfitter Wild Gear Chase: Go on
an urban scavenger hunt that ends in a giant gear tent.
Runners are ranked by the place they finished and number
of check points completed, and get to enter the giant gear
tent every 30 seconds to frantically select an item from
$15,000 worth of outdoor gear. Everyone is a winner.

Get in the Pool: Test drive a kayak or
learn to stand up paddleboard (the
water's not that cold).

The New Face of Economic Development
Some eight years ago the Roanoke Regional
Partnership set out to leverage the region's
natural assets to attract talent and investment.
The result was the creation of Roanoke Outside
and the ensuing change of the region's community
narrative to one that places high value on the
outdoors, the environment, and active living.

Events like GO Fest, the Blue Ridge Marathon
and GO Cross are integral in shaping and telling

businesses to experience the region's natural
assets and see the outdoor economy in action.
It's part of an integrated economic development
strategy.
Yes, this festival is a crazy amount of fun. But that
fun is for the greater good of the region. So it's
pretty easy to see how this is more than "just a
