ROCO'S NEWEST PARK WINS AWARD

County 's 10-acre gem
along Back Creek, has won
a Silver Medal Governor's
Environmental Excellence
Award for Outdoors Plan
Implementation. The county's
newest park-opened in
2018-was developed in
partnership with Roanoke
City, and features canoe and
kayak launch points into Back
Creek, which connects to the
Roanoke River Blueway.
Creation of the park was
spearheaded by Bill Tanger,
chair of the Friends of the
Rivers of Virginia.
