Commissioner Quimby applies the knowledge and
skills gained from her varied background to the routine business and challenges at the commission.
What have you noted about liquor trends in
Michigan?
While Michigan is a wholesale control state, meaning that retail businesses purchase spirits from the
State of Michigan to sell to consumers, the selection
of products has never been greater. In 2017, the MLCC
price book at one point listed more than 10,000 order-

ather than following the status quo, Teri
Quimby is known for asking why things
are done a certain way and how they can
be better," said Crain's Detroit Business in naming the
commissioner of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC) to their 2017 Notable Women Lawyers
in Michigan list.
Commissioner Quimby, now in her second term,
has been working to improve efficiency at the MLCC
since June 2011, when she was appointed commissioner
by Gov. Rick Snyder. "Quimby has encouraged the review of forms and a streamlining of rules," Crain's stated, noting that she contributed to the decrease in the liquor license application time from 275 days to 100 days.
Commissioner Quimby brings a diverse background to the commission. Her experience includes
being licensed as an attorney in both Michigan and Illinois, certification as a mediator, working on a variety
of issues for the Michigan legislature and holding an
elected office in township government. She is proud to
be a Spartan, having graduated from Michigan State
University's James Madison College with a major in
Justice, Morality and Constitutional Democracy and
a minor in German. She earned her J.D. from Western
Michigan University Cooley Law School.
Quimby's influence extends beyond Michigan. She
serves as 2nd vice president of the National Conference of State Liquor Administrators (NCSLA), composed of regulators and other industry participants
from many states. She previously held other elected
positions with this organization.
